Loaded handgun found in man’s carry-on at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport
The Transportation Security Administration said Thursday that a Blair County man was prevented from bringing a loaded handgun on a flight at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe. The TSA said the man had a 9mm handgun loaded with six rounds in his carry-on. He told authorities the gun belonged to his wife, with whom he was traveling. The couple, who have not been named, are from Hollidaysburg. A TSA agent spotted the weapon at a security checkpoint via X-ray. The police were alerted and did not allow the couple to travel with the weapon. It was the first time a firearm was seized at the airport this year. Six were found during 2021. Across the country, TSA agents detected 5,972 firearms on passengers or their carry-on luggage at checkpoints last year. Of the weapons captured by the TSA in 2022, approximately 86% were loaded.
